We would like to invite you to come and see the posters at our upcoming conference. The posters will showcase a diverse range of research topics, and will give delegates an opportunity to engage with the authors and learn more about their work. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the latest developments in your field, we believe that the posters will offer something of interest to everyone. So please join us at the conference and take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with your peers in industry and the academic community.
On 9 April at 17:15, we’ll also hold the main poster session and distinguish the 7 best posters of this year’s edition with our traditional Poster Awards Ceremony. Join us at the poster area to cheer and meet the laureates, and enjoy some drinks with all poster presenters!
We look forward to seeing you there!
PO008: Securing Europe's green energy - Strategies for NIS2 and cyber resilience
Cristiana Tuttolomondo, Consultant, PEAK Wind
Abstract
Europe's cybersecurity landscape has become increasingly complex due to the rapid rise of cyber threats and the diversification of attack methods. Traditionally, these challenges stemmed from digital transformation and a growing reliance on interconnected systems. Moreover, geopolitical tensions, such as Russia-Ukraine or China-Taiwan, have intensified cyber warfare, with critical infrastructure, including the energy sector, becoming prime targets. Renewable energy is essential to Europe's sustainability goals, and wind farms are increasingly targeted by both cybercriminals and state-sponsored attackers. A successful cyberattack could disrupt energy supplies, affect markets, and cause significant financial losses. In response, the NIS2 Directive was introduced to strengthen cybersecurity across critical sectors, including renewable energy. It addresses both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, recognizing the increasing risks these areas face. Wind farm operators, now classified as essential entities, are required to implement more robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard their operations from evolving threats. However, as NIS2 will be enforced on a country-by-country basis, companies operating in multiple regions face the challenge of navigating diverse national regulations while trying to maintain a unified cybersecurity approach across borders. In summary, this presentation will offer strategies to navigate the challenges of complying with the NIS2 Directive while enhancing cybersecurity capabilities across the supply chain to protect both corporate assets and projects. Additionally, it will serve as a foundation for developing and fostering a proactive cybersecurity mindset. Key topics: * An overview of the regulations and standard, with specific focus on NIS2 Directive and how it addresses cyber risks. * Strategies for aligning cyber defences with regulatory requirements. * Practical steps to improve security readiness, ensure compliance, and minimize disruptions and financial risks.
