Biography

Christian Franssen joined the group (former Cockerill-Sambre) in 2000 as process engineer responsible of some development projects on blast furnaces, after few years spent in R&D for glass and steel industries. He took various positions at ArcelorMittal Liège related to process and raw materials for the upstream operations in steel industry. In 2009, he joined the CTO (chief technology officer) transversal team in Flat Carbon Europe – Business Division North as team leader for operational excellence and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) in charge of optimizing raw materials and working points for 5 sites in North Europe. He remained also involved with Liège upstream operations till its closure end of 2011. In 2019, Christian became Ironmaking expert for entire Flat Europe in CTO Primary team. Since 2021, he is working on the decarbonisation of the Flat Europe plants, being the ‘Head of Process and Operations Integration’ within the team of CTO Decarbonisation. Christian holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering and is a graduate from the University of Liège, Belgium since 1997. In 2006, he got a master’s degree in management from EPM business school.
