Session description

During the lifetime of wind farms, components must be replaced or refurbished either on a scheduled basis (1–3% of the initial investment cost annually) or unexpectedly (involving higher costs). The research and development of advanced decision-making tools and remanufacturing technologies to extend wind turbine component lifetimes could prove to be key in reducing the costs of O&M of wind farms. By combining inspection, predictive modelling and in-situ recovery solutions, it enables more efficient maintenance and operations. The companies of this panel are working together on the WINDLIFE project to improve key components on a wind turbine (pitch systems, bearings and bolted joints) to support circularity, reduce costs, and unlock new strategies to repurpose and upgrade ageing wind farm assets for long-term sustainability.
