Whiffle provides ultra-high-resolution atmospheric modelling for renewable energy, powered by Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technology and GPU-accelerated computing. Our focus is supporting wind-energy decision-making, where uncertainty matters most – from early-stage screening through wind resource assessment and yield analysis, to operational forecasting.

Wind energy applications:

Whiffle Wind delivers LES-based wind resource and yield assessments. By explicitly resolving turbulence, wakes, blockage, terrain and land-use effect, in detail, Whiffle Wind supports robust site selection, layout optimization, and more accurate energy yield predictions, particularly in complex terrain, forested areas, and clustered wind farms. Whiffle Atlas provides instant access to long-term wind climatology for early-stage screening and MCP workflows. The data service offers 20 years of hourly wind time series at 2 km resolution and 10 fixed heights (up to 500 m), benchmarked extensively against measurements. It serves as a reliable long-term reference, particularly in coastal, nearshore and coastal terrain regions where standard datasets may fall short. Whiffle Atlas is currently available for Europe, United States, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, with additional regions in development.

Whiffle Wind and Whiffle Atlas are delivered via web application and API. Custom LES simulations are supported through bespoke consultancy.

For operational needs, Whiffle Forecast combines LES with advanced AI and machine learning to deliver highly accurate day-ahead and intraday wind power forecasts. This precision helps energy companies reduce imbalance costs, improve operational decisions, and increase profitability.

All Whiffle products run on a scalable, GPU-powered platform capable of resolving atmospheric processes down to tens of meters. Our focus is strengthening the renewable energy market by increasing predictability across project stages and reducing weather-related financial risk.
