Student, Technical University of Munich
Biography
Always intrigued to find out how technology works, Markus Gockel wanted to look behind claims and at the data of the foundation of society: Energy.
With the German energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables, great amounts of grid expansion became necessary.
After being raised in the west of Germany near Cologne he moved to Munich for more possibilities in life.
Besides his studies, he focused on exploring other approaches to harvest offshore wind.
At the end of his curriculum, he didn't want to write about anything. He reached out to Donald Chidera Abonyi to write about something meaningful in respect to today's challenges: The simultaneous absence of wind and solar power: Dunkelflauten.
His Bachelor Thesis was graded with a 1.0 and the corresponding website is still supported. It will get further updates before the start of the WindEurope Technology Workshop 2026 to deliver the most value for other participants.
