When nature becomes the engineer
On the first day of the Technology Workshop, Vortex invites you to experience something truly unique: a live demonstration of the Strandbeest — a mesmerising, wind-powered kinetic structure created by Dutch artist Theo Jansen.
These “walking beings” move entirely thanks to the force of the wind, transforming a natural energy flow into motion through clever engineering.
More than an art installation, the Strandbeest embodies a powerful idea: that technology can work with nature, not against it. Its elegant movement, driven purely by wind, echoes the very principle at the heart of our industry — harnessing the forces of nature to create sustainable solutions.
As the wind sector continues to innovate at scale, this demonstration is a reminder that inspiration often starts with simple, brilliant concepts: understanding natural forces, and turning them into motion, energy, and progress.
