Abstract

The goals of decarbonization of the energy matrix of the different countries, particularly Chile's, require new wind project developments and, therefore, the search for new sites with wind potential. These sites can often be located far from previously characterized areas and present local phenomena, such as variable roughness and complex topography. Therefore, in the absence of measurements, the need for satellite models to evaluate the potential and behavior of a site is becoming increasingly important to correctly perform a pre-feasibility assessment of the site, which enables to identify with the least possible uncertainty whether it is feasible to continue with the development. In this work, Anabática carried out the validation of the new Vortex Times product, which has a 10-minute resolution that allows a different level of analysis than other providers. For this purpose, 20 sites throughout Chile were studied as a blind test, comparing real measurements of meteorological masts with Vortex Times series in the same location using different statistical methods. The applicability of Vortex Times was determined as a function of location, height, and wind resource parameters such as mean wind speed, turbulence, vertical profile, and wind rose, among others. As part of the same validation, 2 site suitability tests were carried out comparing ones made with metmasts in the same blind test mode to allow early interpretation and awareness of any limitations.
