Life extension through non-conventional repairs

Abstract
"End of life of components may occur due to different circumstances, it can be due to a fatigue limit of the material or due to a damage that cannot be repaired under technically or economically viable conditions. Under these circumstances, component replacement is frequently considered the only feasible solution. However, increasing pressure towards sustainability, circularity and reduction of material consumption is driving the industry to explore alternative repair and retrofit strategies capable of extending component operability beyond traditional end-of-life criteria. In the last years, different non-conventional repair solutions have been developed as technically and economically viable alternatives for components that would otherwise have been replaced or scrapped. The following case studies could be presented: LPS cable replacement in non-accesible zones8 (https://www.aeroblade.com/en/cases-and-applications/lps-repair-tool-for-non-accesible-areas/) LTE Barrel-nut --> incorporating an additional degree of freedom to the traditional T-bolt joint. Blade root LTE --> uptower solution to extend the life of blades with loose inserts at the root."
