Abstract

This case study presents the partial repowering assessment of an aging wind turbine fleet in Europe, where environmental restrictions and permitting limitations make full repowering increasingly difficult. The project evaluates the feasibility of extending the operational life of existing assets by reusing structural BoP components while integrating a new turbine platform. The work applies IEC 61400-28 Life Extension methodologies to validate the hybrid turbine configuration, including site suitability analyses, accumulated fatigue evaluation, aeroelastic model merging, and FEA-supported structural assessments of retained components such as tower and foundation. The objective is to enable a new long-term operational and financial framework with improved energy production and reduced OPEX.
