End-of-life case studies: repowering and lifetime extension

When: Thursday, 5 December 2024, 13:45 - 14:30
Where: Room G3

Session description

Repowering:
Onshore wind farm repowering involves upgrading existing wind turbines with more efficient technology to enhance energy output. Examples include replacing older, smaller turbines with newer, larger models or updating control systems for better performance. In some regions, repowering has successfully doubled or tripled energy production without expanding the physical footprint. In this session, we will take a closer look at the Elster wind farm repowering in Saxony-Anhalt.

Lifetime extension:
Controller retrofit solutions greatly support lifetime extension projects and are a crucial step to improve wind turbine projects beyond the 20 year life span. By replacing outdated controllers with new advanced systems, wind farms can improve with the help of unrestricted data access and analysis, safe operations, and increased efficiency by less downtime and a better power curve, thus ensuring that older turbines continue to perform effectively for many years. Discover how companies have implemented this solution and learn from their experiences.
