Universities Participation in WindEurope’s Annual Event 2027

Overview

WindEurope invites member universities to submit proposals for student participation in WindEurope Annual Event 2027, taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 20–22 April 2027.

The Annual Event brings together the European wind energy sector through a major industry exhibition, a high-level policy and technical conference, a dedicated student programme, networking opportunities with industry professionals, and various side events.

Participation provides students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the wind energy industry, gain insights into current developments and challenges, build their professional networks, and explore career opportunities across the sector.

We welcome proposals from universities with programmes in engineering, renewable energy, business, sustainable science, IT and other relevant fields.

Students will be encouraged to actively engage with the Annual Event before, during and after their participation. Universities are invited to consider how students can connect their experience at the event with their academic studies and share the knowledge and insights gained with their wider university community.

Objectives

WindEurope Annual Event 2027 aims to:

• Provide students with insights into the latest developments and trends in wind energy, including high-level policy and industry perspectives.
• Facilitate networking between students, professionals and industry experts.
• Encourage collaboration and stronger links between academia and industry.
• Help students better understand the skills and career opportunities available across the wind energy value chain.
• Inspire the next generation of wind energy professionals.

Programme

The detailed Annual Event and student programme will be published online ahead of the event.

Selected students will have access to the Annual Event conference and exhibition as well as dedicated student activities and networking opportunities.

Eligibility

Only WindEurope member universities are eligible to apply to this Call for Proposals.

Please note that obtaining membership does not guarantee the selection of a proposal or the allocation of funding.

Proposals are invited from accredited universities in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the United Kingdom, with programmes in:

• Renewable energy
• Engineering
• Business
• Sustainable Science
• IT
• Related fields

We particularly welcome submissions from universities committed to

• Advancing diversity and inclusion
• Promoting sustainability
• Strengthening cooperation between academia and industry

Applications may include full-time Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral/PhD students.
Please note that Doctoral/PhD students who are employed part-time by a company are not eligible to participate under the student programme.

Proposal requirements

Proposals should include the following components:

1. Institutional Overview: Briefly describe the university and the relevant academic programmes.
2. Student Selection: Explain the criteria and process that will be used to select participating students, including how diversity will be considered.
3. Number of Students: Specify the number of students proposed for participation.
4. Commitment: Indicate the university’s commitment to engaging with WindEurope activities and participating in future initiatives.
5. Proposed Engagement: Outline how students will make use of their participation beyond attending the dedicated student programme, conference and exhibition. This could include articles, interviews, university communications, social media content, presentations to fellow students or other activities that extend the impact of their participation.
6. Evaluation and Follow-up: Briefly explain how the university will evaluate the value and impact of students’ participation and share relevant feedback with WindEurope.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Relevance: Alignment with the objectives of the student programme and WindEurope Annual Event.
• Diversity: Commitment to diversity in student selection, including gender, international representation, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, academic disciplines and levels of study.
• Impact: Potential benefits for participating students and the wider university community.
• Commitment: Demonstrated interest in continued engagement with WindEurope and the wind energy sector.
• Engagement and Innovation: Quality and creativity of the proposed activities before, during and after the event.
• Evaluation: Quality of the proposed approach to evaluating and reporting on the impact of participation.

Submission Process

Universities should submit their proposal electronically through the designated WindEurope online submission portal by the deadline indicated below.

• Call for proposal opens: 1 September 2026
• Proposal Submission Deadline: 31 October 2026
• Notification of selection: November 2026
• Final list of the students provided to WindEurope: January 2027
• WindEurope Annual Event 2027: 20–22 April 2027

Funding

WindEurope may provide financial support to selected universities to facilitate student participation in the Annual Event.

Per diem and meals

Selected students will receive a daily per diem of €50, as well as lunch vouchers for the duration of the event.

Students from funded universities based in Copenhagen will receive lunch vouchers but will not be eligible for a daily per diem or travel reimbursement.

Travel costs

Universities must use the European Commission travel cost calculation tool (Table 3) to calculate the eligible travel cost based on the means of transport and the distance between the place of departure and Copenhagen.

WindEurope will reimburse eligible travel costs up to a maximum of €300 per student.

• If the eligible travel cost calculated using the European Commission tool is less than €300, WindEurope will cover the eligible cost indicated by the calculation.
• If the calculated eligible travel cost is €300 or more, WindEurope’s contribution will be capped at €300 per student.
• Any travel costs exceeding WindEurope’s €300 maximum contribution must be covered by the university, the student or another funding source.

Travel reimbursement will be processed after the event, once students’ attendance has been verified and the relevant university-issued invoice has been reviewed and approved.

Universities meeting the evaluation criteria may receive full or partial funding depending on the available budget. WindEurope retains sole discretion over the allocation and level of financial support.

Event registration fees are fully covered by WindEurope for selected students.

Participation Requirements

Attendance at all mandatory student-specific sessions is required for students receiving support through the programme.

Universities are responsible for ensuring that selected students understand and comply with the participation requirements communicated by WindEurope ahead of the event.
