NKT is building the world’s largest offshore cable factory to meet Europe’s growing clean tech demand.
We do not only need more wind turbines to reach the EU’s energy security and climate targets, we crucially also need more cables! Europe’s wind and grid supply chain is ramping up to meet growing demand.
WindEurope Member NKT has invested €2bn since 2020 to increase its cable manufacturing capacity. We visited their site in Karlskrona, Sweden. With an investment of more than €1bn, they are transforming it into the world’s largest offshore cable factory, creating 500 additional jobs. This will also allow for the construction of NKT Eleonora – the world’s first cable-laying vessel able to run on carbon-neutral e-methanol.
