Here&#8217;s what you should check out while you&#8217;re there!<\/h2>\r\n  <p>This year\u2019s Technology Workshop is heading to <strong>Lyon<\/strong>, France\u2019s third largest city and home to around 1.6 million people. Nestled at the meeting point of the Rh\u00f4ne and Sa\u00f4ne rivers \u2013 and at the crossroads of northern and southern Europe, Lyon\u2019s history stretches back to Roman times over 2,000 years ago \u2013 and has seen many people come and go. And it\u2019s certainly earnt its place in the history books. From cinema to gastronomy, from architecture to revolution \u2013 Lyon has left its imprint in many areas. <\/p>\r\n  <p>Our event this year takes place at the <strong>Centre de Congr\u00e8s<\/strong>, right beside the scenic Parc de la T\u00eate d\u2019Or. And as you head down the Rh\u00f4ne river, you get a sense of this city\u2019s age, and its enduring identity. Red tiled roofs and cathedral spires contrast with equally-imposing modern skyscrapers and bridges \u2013 a mark of Lyon\u2019s role as an ancient cultural centre and a contemporary economic hub.<\/p>\r\n<p>So during your visit for this year\u2019s Workshop, make sure to sample a bit of this unique city \u2013 both literally and figuratively. Here are five suggestions from the WindEurope team&#8230;<\/p>\r\n  <div style=\"padding: 40px 0 50px 0;\">\r\n    <hr>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n  <div class=\"row\">\r\n    <div class=\"col-md\">\r\n<h2 id=\"painting\">Dining <em>\u00e0 la Lyonnaise<\/em><\/h2>\r\n      <p>No visit to Lyon is complete without savouring the city\u2019s gastronomic scene. At any one of the numerous local <em>bouchons<\/em> \u2013 or cosy informal restaurants \u2013 you can help yourself to some local delicacies that have made Lyonnaise cuisine famous on the tables of the world. Some of the more famous dishes you could try out include:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><em><strong>Quenelles <\/strong><\/em>\u2013 fish dumplings in Nantua sauce;<\/li>\r\n \t<li><em><strong>Coq au Vin<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 chicken with vegetables and herbs in a Burgundy wine sauce; and<\/li>\r\n\t<li><em><strong>Tablier de Sapeur<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 beef tripe cooked in <em>court-bouillon<\/em> and covered in breadcrumbs.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>  \r\n      <p>And Lyon certainly isn\u2019t lacking when it comes to desserts either. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museedesconfluences.fr\/en\">Mus\u00e9e des Confluences<\/a><\/strong> sits at the meeting point of the Rh\u00f4ne and Sa\u00f4ne rivers, at the very tip of the the city\u2019s Presqu&#8217;\u00eele \u2013 the peninsula forming the core of the old city.<\/p>\r\n      <p>Opened in 2014, this iconic steel and glass structure houses four permanent exhibitions on great themes in science and philosophy: \u201cOrigins\u201d \u2013 the birth of the Universe and the evolution of mankind; \u201cSpecies\u201d \u2013 the natural world and the links between human beings and animals; \u201cSocieties\u201d \u2013 a look at human communities and culture around the world; and \u201cEternities\u201d \u2013 some of the biggest questions on life itself and the meaning of death in different cultures.<\/p>\r\n      <p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.museedesconfluences.fr\/en?ref=tech2023\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Find out more<\/a><\/p>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<hr class=\"mobile\">\r\n  <div class=\"row\">\r\n    <div class=\"col-md\">\r\n      <h2 id=\"castle\">The Mus\u00e9e Lumi\u00e8re \u2013 Two brothers who changed the world<\/h2>\r\n      <p>One of Lyon\u2019s most enduring contributions to modern culture is showcased at the old family home of the Auguste and Louis Lumi\u00e8re \u2013 the pioneers of cinematography and the fathers of cinema. The world\u2019s first motion picture \u2013 <em>La Sortie de l\u2019usine Lumi\u00e8re \u00e0 Lyon<\/em> &#8211; was filmed at a factory beside the Villa in 1895 \u2013 which has also been preserved.<\/p>\r\n      <p>In this <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.institut-lumiere.org\/musee\/pr%C3%A9sentation.html?ref=tech2023\">art nouveau residence<\/a><\/strong> in the city\u2019s Monplaisir district \u2013 on the appropriately named Rue du Premier-Film \u2013 you can learn more about the brothers, early examples of filming equipment, and the breakthrough of modern cinema in France and across the world.<\/p>\r\n      <p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.institut-lumiere.org\/musee\/pr%C3%A9sentation.html?ref=tech2023\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Find out more<\/a><\/p>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n    <div class=\"col-md\"><a title=\"Find out more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.institut-lumiere.org\/musee\/pr%C3%A9sentation.html?ref=tech2023\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" width=\"2010\" height=\"1432\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/windeurope.org\/tech2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/info\/lyon\/musee-de-lumiere.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/a><br>\r\n     <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<hr class=\"mobile\">\r\n  <div class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"col-md\"><a title=\"Find out more\" href=\"https:\/\/lugdunum.grandlyon.com\/en\/?ref=tech2023\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" width=\"2010\" height=\"1432\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/windeurope.org\/tech2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/info\/lyon\/lugdunum.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/a><br>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n    <div class=\"col-md order-md-12\">\r\n      <h2 id=\"museum\">Lugdunum to Lyon<\/h2>\r\n      <p>The city of Lyon was founded as Lugdunum by the Romans in 43 BC, and for most of this period it was the capital of Gaul (modern-day France). With a population of up to 100,000 it was one of the largest cities in Europe at the time.<\/p>\r\n      <p>Signs of the Roman presence can be seen across the city but particularly in the Fourvi\u00e8re district. Here you can find the remains of two outdoor monuments \u2013 a theatre and a smaller odeon. These still function as living monuments \u2013 and play host to the outdoor Nuits de Fourvi\u00e8re festivals throughout the summer. Nearby, you can visit the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lugdunum.grandlyon.com\/en\/?ref=tech2023\">Lugdunum Museum<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 giving you an immersive look at life in the city during ancient times.<\/p>\r\n      <p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/lugdunum.grandlyon.com\/en\/?ref=tech2023\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Find out more<\/a><\/p>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<hr class=\"mobile\">\r\n  <div class=\"row\">\r\n    <div class=\"col-md\">\r\n      <h2 id=\"castle\">The T\u00eate d\u2019Or Park \u2013 A stone\u2019s throw from the venue<\/h2>\r\n      <p>For a more outdoor experience, you don\u2019t have far to look from the event venue. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lyon.fr\/cadre-de-vie\/parcs-et-jardins\/le-parc-de-la-tete-dor?ref=tech2023\">Parc de la T\u00eate d\u2019Or<\/a><\/strong>, right beside the Centre de Congr\u00e8s, is by far the largest green space in the city, and one of France\u2019s biggest urban parks. Located next to the river and covering up to 117 hectares, the park is open from 06:30 to 22:30 during the summer months.<\/p>\r\n      <p>At the centre you\u2019ll find a large lake with rowing boats for hire, as well as a botanical garden with greenhouses, separate rose gardens, a small zoo (which you can enter for free), and a tourist train to take you around the park. This is a place that needs to be seen on foot \u2013 whether its through the parks, along the riverside, or through its UNESCO World Heritage Old City Centre.
