This year, WindEurope\u2019s Annual Event meets in one of Europe\u2019s fastest\u2011moving wind energy markets, in a city that mixes political influence, a vibrant culture and a growing commitment to sustainability. Spain is now a global leader in wind energy deployment, with Europe\u2019s second largest installed wind turbine fleet. And the city is increasingly shaping its future around clean mobility, greener urban spaces and low\u2011carbon living.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

And as for getting around? Madrid already boasts an extensive metro and bus network, expanding cycling infrastructure, electric taxi fleets and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods \u2013 making it easy to move about sustainably whether for business or pleasure. And you certainly don\u2019t have to go far from the IFEMA to see how much Madrid has made a name for itself \u2013 as modern, open and confidently forward-looking.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

A capital shaped by history and ideas<\/h2>\r\n\r\n

King Felipe II made Madrid the capital and centre of Spanish political life in 1561, and it has never looked back since. Madrid\u2019s wide boulevards, historic squares and imposing landmarks all hint at a city that rose from small medieval beginnings to become the political and cultural heart of a global empire. From the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor to centuries-old neighbourhoods like La Latina and Barrio de las Letras, history and cultural heritage are never far away.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

And in the same vein, Madrile\u00f1os are still reinventing their city for modern times and needs. In recent decades Madrid has become a European centre for innovation, finance and clean energy leadership, mirroring Spain\u2019s wider ambition to lead Europe\u2019s energy transition and making it ideal for conversations about the future of wind energy in Europe.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n

Madrid often surprises first-time visitors with just how green it is. With hundreds of parks, tree-lined streets and urban green corridors, the city ranks high among Europe\u2019s leafiest capitals. Spaces like the El Retiro Park, Madrid R\u00edo and Casa de Campo offer a welcome breathing space from the fast-paced business atmosphere. And the plethora of hiking paths, greenways and forests just beyond the city limits means you\u2019re never too far from true wilderness wherever you are.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Many of the city\u2019s green spaces are easily accessible on foot, by bike or by public transport, another nod to Madrid\u2019s commitment to people-centred urban design. A visit to Madrid is something to be savoured \u2013 quite literally. From traditional tabernas serving delicious tapas, bustling and trendy food markets like the Mercados de San Miguel and San Ildefonso to award-winning Michelin star restaurants, the city\u2019s gastronomic scene is a showcase of Iberian and global tastes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

But beyond the menus themselves, tapas culture is very much a social phenomenon. Spaniards are not ones to rush through their mealtimes \u2013 as their own saying goes, \u201cpanza llena, coraz\u00f3n contento\u201d (full belly, happy heart!)
